Democracy is not a spectator sport. Democracy is not just a system of laws or elections.
It is a shared capacity—the freedom to govern ourselves by participating, deciding together, and shaping public life. When it works, it is the backbone that makes a just, inclusive, and sustainable world possible. Democracy does not survive on autopilot. It must be actively upheld through institutions and practices that inform the public, expand participation, and resist authoritarian capture so shared power remains real, not symbolic.
That freedom is under direct threat. Concentrated power, greed, and deliberate efforts to undermine democratic norms are hollowing out the social contract.
Disengagement and disinformation make this easier, but the deeper danger is a power grab that replaces shared self-government with control by the few. This work invests in democratic infrastructure that builds civic capacity, strengthens trust, and keeps shared power anchored in fairness and accountability.
